Fairbanks Tennis Association
Your local community tennis organization – providing Tennis Fun in the Midnight Sun! We offer a full schedule of low-cost summer programming for youth and adults, for all skill levels from beginner to advanced.

Private Lessons (all ages) are available with our visiting pro, John McElroy (as well as our local professional coaches). 
Cost: FTA Members $50/hour; non-FTA members $75/hour. By appointment with FTA’s Operations Manager.

3.5 & up player clinic with John McElroy – Friday July 13th 6:30 – 8:00 pm. $15 per player.

Cardio Tennis with John McElroy – Saturday July 14th 9:00 – 10:30 am. All levels welcome. $15 per player.

John currently resides and teaches in Las Vegas and has been a tennis teaching pro for over 20 years in various locations, including Fairbanks in the early 2000s.

John’s teaching philosophy: “I believe in the ways of teaching tennis as fun, intense, challenging and always keeping an open mind. Keep pushing and never give up. Winners never quit and quitters never win.”

  • July 21: Golden Days Parade FTA float walk, 10am
  • July 25: 1st day High School Tennis
  • July 28-29: FTA Sam Woodke Tournament: Quickstart, Junior, Adult
  • August 6: 1st day Middle School Tennis
  • September 21-22: High School Regional Tournament
  • October 5-6: State High School Tennis Championships, Anchorage
Our Programs
Youth Programs
Programs for K-2 (ages 5-7); beginning, intermediate and advanced group lessons in our National Junior Tennis League (ages 8-18); National Junior Team Tennis and Tennis After-School.
Middle School Programs
For players of all skill levels in grades 6 – 8. Stroke production and games are used to provide a fast paced interactive experience. All players are welcome, including homeschool students!
High School Programs
All high school students – Plan to come out for your high school tennis team! Tennis is an out-sourced high school sport in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District.
Adult
Adults Morning and Evening Classes for beginner and intermediate players. Private instruction available by appointment. Sign up and improve your game!
Tournaments
Looking for local or regional tournaments to test your skills? Keep active with tennis through tournament play for juniors and adults. This is what community tennis is all about!
Coaches Training
Come join our excellent coaching staff, and encourage your favorite teacher to come play with us this summer! FTA offers training opportunities through the year.

Where are the courts?

The Dan Ramras Community Tennis Courts, are located off Airport Way, on Schiable St, behind the Mary Siah Rec Center, directly east of Lathrop High School.
